The Meningitis Trust - the UK’s longest established meningitis charity – helps anyone who has been affected by meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia. With as many as 500,000 people living in the UK who have had either viral or bacterial meningitis and up to one adult in every four knowing someone who has had the disease, the charity’s ongoing work is much-needed.
Most people survive meningitis, but many are left with debilitating after-effects, including deafness, blindness, limb loss (where septicaemia has been involved), learning difficulties, memory issues and behavioural problems.
The charity provides ongoing practical and emotional support to families and individuals through free services, including a 24-hour nurse-led helpline, financial support grants, counselling, home visits and family days.
The Trust is committed to raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of meningitis, producing and distributing millions of leaflets, posters and symptoms cards every year. It relies on voluntary donations and partnerships with businesses to continue its vital work.
Our Vision-
Our Vision is for all communities to be aware of the threat and impact of meningitis and for anyone affected to have access to quality care and support for as long as they need it.
Programmes and Activities-
Our Mission is to reduce the devastating impact of meningitis by:
• raising awareness of the disease with health professionals and the general public – prompt action can save a life or reduce the likelihood of after-effects
• providing the professional services and support to everyone affected for as long as they need it – helping people to rebuild their lives
• empowering other people and organisations by working together - improving aftercare for people affected by meningitis in the UK and beyond
• continuing to be the leading authority on the after-effects and aftercare of meningitis - fighting for those who need support for life
